Since the birth of the concept of Landfill Mining (LFM) in the 50's, the method has been used in pilot study applications as well as larger-scale projects all over the world. Most of the LFM applications have been conducted  in the US and Europe, but also many projects have taken place in Asia. The identified LFM applications from the available literature were gathered by the LIFE reclaim Team and the following World Map was created:
