Through the LIFE reclaim project, an attempt was made to update sparse existing inventories and create an integrated inventory of operating landfills in Greece and parts of the EU, which could be of interest for the development of landfill mining, i.e. they possibly include values in form of raw materials (metals, etc), energy and land. This also includes old unregulated dump-sites which have not been rehabilitated but also historic landfills which are not operational anymore.

 

The results of this endeavour have been included in a web-GIS application, an interactive map of the Landfills of selected areas of Europe. It is now available online here.
