Landfill Inventory: An online legacy

We hope that you have already checked out the Landfill Inventory of LIFE reclaim which was published last month on our website. This online web-GIS application is actually an interactive map of the Landfills of selected areas of Europe, which can be used for various reasons, including research for landfill sites which are suitable for Landfill Mining.

An early version of the map is now available online here. More additions of site locations and other data will be included regularly and a final version containing quick searches and queries between the available data will be uploaded soon, so be sure to check it regularly. Also, an accompanying report on the sources used, the methodology of collecting and analysing the information and some primary conclusions is being prepared and will be released probably during next month.

If you have any questions, comments or even additions concerning the Landfill Inventory, do not hesitate to send us an e-mail to discuss this further.

Design of the Demonstration Unit

As our project is progressing, the reclaim Team has held a meeting to finalise the needs of the Landfill Mining pilot demonstration unit. The design of the Unit is currently undergoing a final review and it is expected to be released during January, when the procurement procedures for the Unit's machinery will also begin. If everything goes according to plan, the Demonstration Unit will be in operation around April.

Warm Wishes for a Happy Holiday

Last but not least... The LIFE+ reclaim Team would like to wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May 2015 be a year of joy, happiness and many scientific breakthroughs.
