There's something about Belgium

The EURELCO consortium, which main core is located in Belgium keeps stirring the academic community in order to promote landfill mining, establish a legal framework around the method, collect information about the landfills in Europe and standardise the process.

Through the Consortium, three innovative INTERREG projects, RAWFILL, COCOON and SMART GROUND are now active with these main goals. During last week, on 7th February 2018, a joint workshop between the three projects was hosted in Mechelen, Belgium, with more than 100 international attendees from academia, policy makers, companies and NGO’s, discussing some of the challenges to tackle landfill management and mining projects.

Magnus Gislev from the European Commission DG GROW was among the participants. He stressed that landfill mining projects can contribute to the sustainable development goals and supported the cooperation and interaction between the three projects.
